i need to record

I'm not sure if this topic belongs here or not, if it doesn't, sorry.


I need to record something on TV and put it onto my computer or a DVD. I don't have TiVo, but I heard of this one thing that could work, an AV port, can someone explain what an AV port does? and if it is something I will need to record a TV show?

After ( and if) I manage to record a show, I want it to be in .avi format, I don't know how to do this, so if someone could please help me on this to

To record and put TV on your computer you need to capture it, either with some sort of capture device or you can use a DVD recorder.
