    Hey
Does anyone know where i can pick up a NEC ND-3520A from a reliable online store ?

I checked Rima & they are out, looked at newegg and they don't even have them listed anymore. Not sure if i want to get one off e-bay.

    Thanks!

Any particular reason you're looking for this older model DVD burner?

earlier this year that model was replaced with the 3540a and most recently that one was supplanted by the 3550a.

Because i'm assuming my laser is going out and i already have custom bios i made for this model with write strategies that work great.
I'm gonna pick one of the newer models and if they work as good or i can make some new bios for the newer ones i will just replace one of my other older burners in one of my other pc's with the 3520A

Thanks! I hope they are pretty fast and reliable as i just ordered one from them 8)

  4. Check the NECforum at CDFreaks for several f/w options that are available for the newer models

I've never had a problem with them, but on resellerratings.com, some people claim lack of delivery on products claimed to be in stock. In the case of this older, discontinued DVD burner, hope for the best, but be prepared to cancel your order and stop payment on your credit card.

You better not jinx it now
    :P
They said it was in stock, already charged my bank account and said it was being shipped express so i will have it mid week next week.
They better have the damn thing or i'll be a callin' and a bitchin'!!!

I'm hoping you don't have any problems, but if you do...
Just don't drag out the calling and bitching beyond 30 days or so, or whenever the time-limit on your credit card is for stopping payment. It really gets problematic then.
    Good luck!

P.S. BTW, http://www.resellerratings.com is a good place to check on individual online merchants. In the case of buy.com, there are many, many individual reviews of them. Many others with higher ratings have far fewer reviews. Keep in mind that as with most online reviews, hardware included, the majority of the reviews are one extreme or the other: either people who have had problems, or people who just dealt with the business/hardware yesterday and are thrilled with it/them. The vast, unwashed majority of people who just have business-as-usual experiences are not there.

That does not mean that the data is not useful. It is a good tool to use for comparison between sites, and perhaps it might be a useful hint as to the likelhood of what your individual experience would be. Everything else being equal, plus the fact that what you are buying is available at all the sites being compared, take the one with the best rating.

In your case, given the relative online scarcity of this drive, I think its probably worth a shot. Just be diligent.

  8. I never had any issues with buy.com,but I think newegg.com is cheaper in this case

Except that newegg.com doesn't have any 3520A's, which was the original topic of this thread.
