    Hey,

With Windows XP Pro im trying to do a repair but it keeps asking for the admin password and there isn't one!
Is there a default password for the admin in the recovery console mode?

    Cheers peeps.

I have found that in several cases, WinXP actions won't work unless you provide a password. One of them is sharing a folder on a LAN for specific users having these user accounts have no password.

Try to boot in safe mode and change the password of administrator to something. Provided of course the repair problem you have allows you to start WinXP at all.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

I think you had to provide an admin password when you installed XP - at least I had to. Took some time to figure out what it was last time I deleted userinit.exe, but I found it!

Type "Admin". that simple. If no password was ever set this will work.

  7. You do not have to specify an Administrator password upon install, and/or no password is acceptable. There are some situations, as mentioned, where a password is not specifically required but does become necessary. But it will not spontaneously change on you.

Recovery console generally not too useful. Use the second Repair option, after the console.

Boot failure obviously a bad sign. Depending on drive age, replace and start all over again or re-install. Re-install over a detected previous install retains settings. This is the second Repair option. Previous install Not Detected, major bummer.

Do you get any Windows logo happening? If so, have you changed any hardware in the machine, or is the Video card possibly loose?

If you are still able to get into your system, then you can disable the WinXp logon.

Disabling startup login prompt for password

    Click Start and Run
Type "Control Userpasswords2" and press enter.
Uncheck the box for "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer."
    Click Apply and Ok.

  9. Try the following as it works like a charm every time

  10. if the link provided above doesn't work, chances are the hard drive is on its way out. Back up your files to another drive or cd/dvd/thumbdrive, replace the hard drive, and reinstall. I've seen this happen before with the recovery console asking for a password when one was never set. Last chance, go to recovery console and when it asks for a password, just hit enter. if not and the password blanker bootdisk doesn't work, your hard drive is either going bad or is corrupted beyond running a repair installation.

  11. If you have no admin password setup just hit return

If you're having boot problems when you get into the console try ther command fixmbr it will write a new master boot record then try to boot

Has got me out of the s**t a few times
