  1. Hi again all, have another question, this time it’s a little more involved. Hopefully some video tech can help me with this one.

Let’s say that I have a pro-shot video of a concert. The video is great, but the audio was taken from an audience mic. Now let’s also say that I have a soundboard tape of that same show and I want to sync it to the video. After capturing the video with iMovie HD, would it be possible for me to import the audio and sync it up with the video, or am I asking too much of iMovie and have to move on to Final Cut Pro?

  2. Technically it could be done, as long as it's the same performance. If it gets out of sync, you can always split the audio track at the beginning of each song and make adjustments (use the applause or crowd noise to mask any problems).

When you import the audio to your computer, save it as AIFF.

You can add soundtracks to iMovie and adjust their sync with the video. You then can select which audio tracks are going to be the ones that play with the movie. This all is doable.

  5. OK, so I'm asking, basically how would I do this?

    1. Obviously import the video to my Mac G5 with iMovie
    2. Rip the audio of the same performance from the CD

    3. ??? (What do I do next)

Also, to add a fly to the ointment...the tape has the intro to the show that the video is lacking. But, I'd like to add a title card in iMovie with the audio of the show running until the video of the concert comes in. How would I do that?

  6. 1. import movie.
    2. create a title card and place it at the beginning of the movie (it's duration will be set later)
    3. import audio. Split this audio track at the point the introduction begins and the concert begins.
    4. find the point where the new audio should start and drag it to the video's concert beginning. Fine tune this alignment.
    6. move the introduction of the audio to the beginning of the film and set the duration of the titlecard to match its length.
    7. Turn off the original audio track (check boxes on the right of timeline). You could also delete this track, since in theory you've alrady synced the new track to it by listening to both tracks playing at once.
8.save project and export movie as DV and import into whatever DVD authoring app you desire.
