  1. I have a 512x384 181Kbps DIVX AVI and am using CCE to convert it to DVD
however when it resizes it to 720x480 and I compile the DVD using gui for dvdauthor, then I go to view the dvd on my PC using powerDVD, it does not show up full screen???

    why is this??

  2. Is the converted video from CCE 'full screen' if played in powerDVD? What aspect ratio has the movie?

It sounds like the image basically just got a black border wrapped around it to make it 740 x 480. If you are wanting to change it to this resolution to burn to dvd and watch on a SD TV you might just want to try burning to an RW and seeing how it looks on the TV. you will still see a little black border but it won't be nearly as bad as watching it on your pc monitor cause the tv covers up some of the outside edges...

    Two possible.....

    A. I'm not familiar with that encoder but you probably it probably has options on how it resizes. Most likely you used a 1:1 resize which would make it 640x480. the encoder would add black bars to both sides to make up the difference. If they are all the way arounf it would be what the poster above said.

B if the bars are to pand bottom....16:9 and 4:3 both use the same resolution of 720x480 or any other compliant resolution. So if you specified it was 16:9 when you authored it then PowerDVD will adjust the aspect to 16:9.

BTW, I'd try resizing down instead of up. you'll probably get better results.

  5. In the newer versions of CCE, if you have that MPEG-2 For DVD box checked, but no resize box checked, then all it will do is to add a whole bunch of black to get to 720x480. I may be mistaken, but I think that's the only choice with older versions of CCE. I might disagree with you, greymalkin, that the amount of black added to a 512x384 AVI might not bother the OP. Not only will there be bad AR doing it that way, but 104 pixels of black added to both the left and right sides, and 48 to both the top and bottom is quite a lot, even with the overscan taken into account.

In the newer versions of CCE you can check the resize box and it will expand the video to 720x480. I think that heckubiss is probably using an older CCE, perhaps 2.50, or hasn't read his manual.

And just dropping the AVI into CCE isn't a very intelligent way to get it encoded with best quality. Much better is to frame serve using an AviSynth script, doing the Resize, AddBorders, and Color Conversion before it ever gets to CCE.

  6. ok I figured it out. I did not click the resize checkbox for mpeg 2 dvd in CCE. when you choose SVCD it forces you to resize but for DVD for some reason it doesnt force you.
