Hi,
is it possible to burn a dvd which has two separate VTS (using. e.g. DVD Lab Pro), one in NTSC format and the other in PAL?
Thanks to anyone that can provide infos.

It may work in some players (players that support both formats), but otherwise, your menu system would be in one format or the other and may not be playable.

Consider two sides, a NTSC side and a PAL side.

Others have asked and it appears that this is not supported by any authoring programs. In fact, the specs may not allow for it. edDV has a great idea, but I would like to point out that it has been estimated that 95% of the world's DVD players can play NTSC discs, so you may not really need to make a PAL version. In fact, Brazil, which is a PAL country, routinely produces NTSC DVDs of musical artists specifically so they can be sold around the world. Many NTSC DVD players can't play PAL discs, so since almost everyone can play NTSC, that's what they use for greatest compatibility. Hong Kong and Macau do exactly the same thing on their DVDs and both of those places are PAL. Older PAL TVs can't always support an NTSC signal and some DVD players may not be able to convert NTSC to PAL, but if you are using DVD-R or DVD+R discs and burning this yourself, I'll warn you that no matter what type of disc you use and whether you use PAL or NTSC, somebody somewhere isn't going to be able to play it, so you might just want to make your life easy, produce it in NTSC and hope for the best.

I just finished a mixed format disc authored in DVDLab Pro and have sent it to friends (20) all over the world. So far no reports of any complications playing it.
(The only reason it ended up being mixed is because I wanted to keep the best possible quality for each clip on it - converting was not really an option for me with this one)
If you absolutley must have mixed formats, make your VMG menu NTSC - as stated above almost all newer PAL players and TVs can play/display NTSC nowadays, so that will eliminate the problem of the menu structure being incompatible. -

How did you do this please? Everytime I've tried doing this in DLP it won't let me. I'd given up and accepted that mixing PAL & NTSC on the same disc was simply not allowed at all no matter how much you try to bend the rules. -
Pcgedit allows the mixing of such things , but it comes down to the players ability to play both pal and ntsc format , some dont .
Pcgedit also dosent require the complete reauthoring , just import vst titles , and link into menu system ... if its an already authored dvd with titles , you must have more buttons available so as to connect the new titles , otherwise , you need to use the blank out feature .
If you want to allow 2 titles to play consecutively , because you dont have any more buttons available , dont mix pal and ntsc together . Your player may freak out completely .
My advice , make sure all audio streams are the same fomat and matching kbps rates , or you will make you dvd player go nutts .
Mixing audio stream formats is not a good thing ... enjoy -
I've also used DVD-Patcher to make TMPGEnc DVD Author think everything is rosy with PAL and NTSC clips on the same DVD. If you go down this road, make sure to patch the affected VOB(s) after authoring and before burning.
If in doubt, Google it. -
if you dvd lab pro, relax compliance checking.

2 vts, each with a menu. Main/root VMG menu connecting to both PAL vts and NTSC Vts . Before compiling there will be a warning that the disc may not play in some players. As I said before, if you make your VMG menu NTSC, most of the time that will ensure that almost all players can at least play the disc and the NTSC vts, although some players in US won't be able to play the PAL vts.
Normally I wouldn't have mixed formats, but one of the clips I included on this disc was from a HDTV rip and didn't want to reduce the quality any further (after making it DVD compliant) by converting it.
