  1. I used SmartRipper then DVD2AVI, then I have to use TMPGenc to encode to MPEG because CCE wont recognize the output of DVD2AVI. Is this normal or should I have used CCE to convert the image from the vobs? TMPG is just so slow. It is taking 19 hours to record 1:20 of VCD program @1246 kps, 128 audio.

Please tell me where I went worng. Really would like to try CCE out as the TMPG is just takng too long.

    akbrown,

    * whats your cpu type and speed?
    * R U using and filters, resolutions, bitrate, 1pass, 2pass, etc, etc.
    * anything else left out here?

19 hours IS a long time for a VCD encode!!
Unless you have filters up the jimmy, OR you have a very
slow CPU, you should not be getting these encoding times

I know w/ my OLD blown out CPU, I was getting 3 hours or less
for a 1 hour capture to AVI using huffy and capping at 352x480
and making xSVCD, CQ_VBR of 2520mx/1850mn bitrate, etc.

I can't wait till I get an new CPU (XP maybe) and see what my
    encoding time will be.

That needs a defrag probably again
Encoding a 1 hour 20 minute movie ripped from DVD with SmartRipper DVD2AVI

Using Highest Quality Encoding with 1246 VIDEO, 128 AUDIO.

Also, what is the max for these settings, is there a sum you must come up with as is for SVCD?

    Thanks

    akbrown,

Obviously you already know that answer. CPU upgrage. But, that may be out
of the question for you at this time.

    DVD2AVI:
The only alternative that I know of is to not use the Save as Project, but instead,
save as AVI and use the HUFFY codec. Then, try and see if CCE will accept this
    AVI file and encode it.
You may have to play around with some setting in CCE, ie, uncheck the AUDIO
or something, but in my experience, I could NEVER the CCE to work in any AVI
file I fed it, and even when I did get it to encode, it would bail out somewheres
in the middle or end of the encode, and no matter how hard I tried, the
remaining file would not play in ANY VCD/SVCD app player I could throw at it.

To save time in this process above, just do small scenes, using the Mark in and
Mark out "[" and "]" button I think, then save as AVI using the HUFFY codec.

So, that's the best I can offer to at this time.
But, this should keep you busy for a while.
    GOOD LUCK.

  5. I thought that CinemaCraft Encoder was supposed to better than TMPEnc. It is not compatible with DVD2AVI as a general rule? Well what is it directly compatible with (what programs)\\\

And, I wish to do whole movie, not just some scenes.

    TGhanks for replies and suggestions.

    AKBROWN.

    akbrown,

I was asking you to do some small scenes so that you could test it and see if
it would work in CCE, rather than do a whole movie, and then really be pissed
    off.
