I have been burning some DVD’s (with Shrink & Decrypter) and I’d like to keep them on my Hard Drive but obviously the files are to big. Is there a process like with audio CD’s (wav. to mp3, saved on the Hard Drive then transformed from an mp3 back to a wav. with software for an audio CD)? If so what software is best for this, where can I get it and how do you do it? You guys & gals are the best.

    Thanks Y’all

  2. Why not just buy a second hard drive to store them on? Hard drives are a lot cheaper than they use to be. There are ways to make it fit on one CD(divx, xvid) but converting it back, you will loose video and audio quailty.

You *could* convert them to DivX, XviD, WMV or H264 (to name but a couple of options), but just like audio, when you convert WAV to MP3 and back to WAV again, there is a quality loss. It is moreso the case with video.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Bigger and more hard drives would be the way to go for me, why not buy an external hard drive that you can just store your films on,thats the path Im going down.

You gotta understand: what's stored on an AudioCD is uncompressed. That's why you can squeeze it down to mp3/ac3/aac, etc. with reasonable success.
But DVD video is ALREADY very compressed (~20-50:1). It's like you're trying to squeeze a couple of extra drops of water from an already dried up sponge!

thats a pretty good analogy...you are best storing the video at full quality because sometime down the road you'll probably wish you still had it. You can get a huge hard drive for relatively cheap..check newegg or tigerdirect. You could also archive to dvd if you are running out of space...but if you compress it you'll never get that quality back.
