  1. How can I rip just the movie (no menus, chapters, extras) from a DVD to Mpeg?

I have tried ripping with DVD decrypter and then joining the vobs with VOB2MPG but it gave me messed up mpegs that would jump to different parts of the movie.

Here is another possibility that I have used to break TV shows on DVD to individual files. Load the DVD into DVD Shrink and choose the reauthor mode. Drag the movie(s) from the right pane to the left and back-up to hard drive. Once that is complete, restart VOB2MPG and pick the VOB from the file created by DVD Shrink. VOB2MPG should produce a file that starts and ends where you expect it to.

  3. Ok, now I've got the 2 parts of the movie I wanted (part1.mpg and part2.mpg). How do I join them? I have tried this avisynth script:

    Code:
    # -= AviSynth v2.5.6.0 script by FitCD v1.2.8 =-
    DirectShowSource("C:\MOL\MPEGS\part1.mpg")+DirectShowSource("C:\MOL2\MPEGS\part2.mpg")
    Lanczos4Resize(320,208,0,6,720,468)
    AddBorders(16,16,16,16)
    #Trim(0,36902).FadeOut(150)
ConvertToYUY2() # For VirtualDub or CCE
But when I go to play that in MPC the framerate looks way too fast and audio is off sync. Each mpeg is 29.97fps according to MPC when I play each alone.

I want to join 2 mpegs but with no quality loss, is there another way besides avisynth (or a way to have my problem fixed with avisynth)?

DVD Decrypter should be able to save the video files as one vob. In Tools-->Settings, in either file or IFO mode, depending on what you are trying to do, in the options section you will see that it asks how to split the files. There are several choices, including none. If you select none, you will get one big vob file. You could then run it through mpg2vob. You ould also open directly in Womble MPEG VCR if you wish to preserve mpg or you could open in Virtualdub-mpeg2 and either save to avi or re-encode to mpg.

You could also use DGIndex to create the d2v file from the ripped vob files and then frameserve that through AVISynth.

What do you wish to accomplish with the video? What is the final purpose?

I use TDA. Can't get any easier. Baldrick has posted a guide to show you how with TDA and several other different software tools. Use search to the left here under "How To"! If you end up with two MPEGS then use an MPEG joiner such as TMPGEnc MPEG Editor.
