  1. Hello to all.

I extracted the audio from a transfer from VHS to mpeg-2. Corrected several things and want to replace the original audio in the mpeg-2 file.

What tools are there for this, freeware if possible?

I tried to author the DVD but the files won't fit, as the authoring software keeps the original audio in the mpeg-2 file and adds the corrected audio track.

I need to replace the audio stream before authoring.

Many thanks in advance and regards.

BTW, will the streams lose sync?

the way i would do this from the start is.. say i had an mpeg-2 video file with ac3 audio.. and for example i needed to bleep out some incriminating audible information.. first i would use dvd2avi to extract the audio to a wav file.. then i would use cool edit pro (or any other wav audio editor) to do my audio editing.. then i would use besweet or sonic foundry to encode back to ac3.. now i've got an mpeg-2 file with the original ac3 & my edited ac3.. i would use TDA, drop the mpeg-2 file in it, replace the audio with the edited audio.. and voila, make dorky menu's if needed, output the dvd files, image to iso with imgtool classic & burn with dvd decrypter..

    What lumis said.

If you don't change the length of the audio, and it has the same play time as the video, it should stay in sync.

I'm not sure what authoring program you are using, but you should be able to select the new audio instead of the one from the MPEG when you author. At least you can in TDA. Your new audio has to be DVD compliant, also.

OK, so DVD decrypter will substitute the original audio without changing the original video bitrate and the files will fit in a regular DVD-R?

    Thanks in advance.

all dvd decrypter will do is burn..

TDA is what really switches the audio track..

when you drop your mpeg-2 file in it, it will use the audio track from it (original), unless you specify a different audio track (edited)..

and to make sure that you dont go over your the size of the dvd-r, you'll want to make sure you're using the same bitrate.. unless there will be plenty of room left on the dvd (a hundred or so MB), then you can up the bitrate some.
