  1. Where are the Divx/Xvid Heading?

Divx released 6.0 a few months ago.
Xvid will probably be releasing new version.
    How about realibility?

Are there newer Divx/Xvid Players models being release as we speak?

There must be way to know the when a new divx/xvid player is release.

How about a list of Divx certified players?

    http://www.divx.com/hardware/certified/products.php

You can look around the site a little to see what they have in mind for the future.

XviD will basically always be MPEG-4 part 2 compliant and it basically already supports all the features so it doesn't matter how many times it gets updated. Current players will still play it back fine (or not fine in the case of GMC, etc.).

In terms of DivX 6. We will see more ultra certified players. In terms of both we will see more supporting HiDef resolutions. Also more support for Nero Digital. In terms of ASP features, I don't think we will see 3 warp point GMC support. But we will see more chipsets with AVC/aac decoding.

  4. Some players allow firmware updating, so they should be able to play the new stuff.

Well not really. There is a limit to what the chipsets can do. So a firmware update isn't going to increase the resolutions supported or add AVC decoding support.

  6. so does that mean that since the Divx/Xvid players play mpeg-4 that if you use nero digital it will play on the player????

Yes and no. Nero like XviD supports 3 warp points, which no player can decode. But as long as you don't use any features that aren't supported (GMC, too high a resolution, etc.) then it should decode fine.

If by Nero Digital you mean the mp4 files that Nero creates, well most players only support the avi/divx container. So no it won't work, that is unless you remux.
