I curretnly use dvd decrypter to copy the dvd to my system then dvd shrink to put on a single layer dvd. Can nero recode do the same as using dvd decrypter for the protection and shrink for the compression. Thanx All.

Nero Recode is advanced DVD Shrink with some other options, as well. It doesn't work as DVD Decrypter does.
It will not work on copy protected DVD's.

When it comes to a quality of compression, Nero Recode could hardly be beaten.

It would be best to decode with dvd decrypter than used dvd recode for the final dvd.

DVD Decrypter, while still a great program, is no longer updated. This means it does not handle the latest copy protection on newer disks. The weapons of choice here are either the freeware DVD Fab Decrypter, or the payware AnyDVD. They work in different ways, but are both updated frequently as the new protection changes shape.

As for Recode, it is a transoder like Shrink. Quality is in the eye of the beholder, but both are limited in how much you can recompress before quality starts to suffer. Where that point is varies from disk to disk, and is also dependent on your personal tolerance. I use Shrink because I believe it is still equal in quality for small recompressions. For anything over about a 10% reduction I use DVD Rebuilder with Procoder as it is simply superior to any transcoder.
