I have lots of music videos on mpeg and wmv. I would like to put them on vcd or svcd or dvd. I know how to burn music cd's on a cd-r, thats all. What program or programs would i need to use to convert athe file then put on a cd-r or dvd+r, so i can view multiple videos on the vcd. Is there any extra applications that i would need to use to convert the files or is there a program that does both.

VCD is mpg1, SVCD & DVD is mpeg2. wmv isn't suitable for anything besides computer playback.
Decide what you want. VCD? SVCD? DVD?
If any of your source files doesn't match what's required for your selected format, reencode them to fit the standard. (See WHAT IS, top left)
For almost any format you might have, there's a giude under CONVERT left, for reencoding it into any other format, along with the tolls needed.
Basically, you need 2 kinds of app - one encoder (to get whatever into the right format) and one authoring app (to create the disc).

It depends on what your doing with the end resulting disc. You could just drag, drop, and burn and be done with it.

What would be the easiet program (shareware) to use to convert mpegs to mpeg-1 or 2. Then i would like to take those mpeg-1or 2 and put a few of them on a dvd+r or cd-r so i can play them on my dvd player. I am not sure how many mpeg-1s can be put on a dvd+r or cd-r. My dvd player also reads VCD so if there is a way to convert multiple mpeg-1 or 2 to one VCD, that would work also. And would i be able to skip from one mpeg-1 to another on the dvd player? If there is an easy way to do this, please let me know how or what program to use. Thank you.

  5. First I would get a copy of eovideo (it used to convert wmv which most don't) that's an easy starting place. The easiest thing to make vcd (mpeg1) video is TMPGenc, then a burning program that creates the VCD. If your player plays mpg without vcd, it's easier just to burn the mpg file to a cd-r. Other tools that are easy to pick up include virtual dub and audacity. Have fun, learn as you go. Everything you need is on this site. I would invest in a copy of Nero however.

You can put up to 80 minutes of video in a VCD format but I usually do only 75 to 78 to allow some room. Download a trial version of Nero or Roxio. If you do it everyday, you'll be done before the trial period expires. My Nero v. 6 can encode some WMV's.

You're mixing apples & pears - VCD is the disc. mpeg-1 is the material to use when you create a VCD.
Like said, 80 min/VCD, but you ban also author mpeg1 as DVD - 6-7 hours to a DVD.
For authoring VCD, I strongly recommend VCDEasy. Nero is hit and miss - some versions do create working VCD, some don't.
