  1. When I encode certain xvid films and I tell it to auto adjust to dvd-5 it sometimes outputs a video about 4.7gb in size, any reason why it might do this?

  2. 4.7 is the max a dvdr can hold.
    so svcd2dvd makes the most of the space on the dvdr.

  3. DVDs can only hold 4.4GB they are advertised as being able to hold 4.7GiB.

    The old 1000 vs 1024 thing so you are both right...

    Comrinec: This can happen when the encoder overestimates the bitrate. With the latest version of S2D you can have DVDShrink shrink your DVD back to DVD-5 automatically if this happens.
