I am looking for some troubleshooting advice on my Kenwood DV-5900M DVD player. Last week it was working fine. Would play store bought DVDs and also DVDs that I recorded on various formats.
Over the weekend I tried playing DVDs and got the message "This type of disc cannot be played. Please change the disc" These same discs work fine on other DVD players.
I have tried all different movies different formats etc. Nothing works. Player tries to read but wont play anything.
Does this mean that the laser needs to be cleaned or does this sound like a hard failure??
Please let me know.
Thanks
Ken

Sounds like a cleaning is in order before a declaration of hardware problems is issued.
