Hi.
Ive recently purchased a Philips MMS 460 surround system for our Dell PC.
My problem is the phono cable supplied. It is a 3 jack at each end, so i have it connected to the sub woofer, but can only fit one plug into the back of my PC (only one sound outlet back there).
Is there a phono cable which i can use to solve this (a 3 into 1) or is there another solution?
Thanks very much for replies.
Rob

If your pc has surround sound capability there will be a software setting somewhere that enables it. Once enabled you use the line in and mic sockets for the rear speakers and sub/centre. If the (almost certainly onboard) sound doesn't support 5.1 surround then your only option is to change the soundcard for one that does.

Thanks very much Richard.
I will have a look at the software settings for the soundcard and try and enable the mic and line in.

Ok. How do i configure my Mike and Line In?
Can it be done through control panel or is there another means?
I have a soundmax card which is about 2/3 years old now. I cant find the details of it having surround 5.1, but i have checked the Speaker set up in control panel and checked Surround 5.1
Appreciate your help
Cheers

If 5.1 is an option in speaker setup, it is probably 5.1 capable. If this is the case, usually selecting 5.1 changes the functions of the sockets. Assuming you only have 3 sockets, their usual functions will be line out, line in and mic. Changing the speaker setting makes the line out into the front out and the other two sockets into rear and centre/sub. Try it and see, you won't do any harm to soundcard or speakers.
As it is a Dell, check in the small tropical rainforest of paper that came with it. There may be something in there.
