    Hi all,
I got CyberHome mini DVD player with progressive scan CH-DVD 300 model as a gift. I am in India. I connected this small peice of hardware to TV and placed a DVD. It worked I could do all the different things like zooming, fast forwarding etc from remote. Then I used some audio CDs. They also worked properly. And I could see the menu of songs on the TV screen. Then I removed the TV connections instead now I connected DVD player's audio output to Home theater system. It also worked properly.
After this I wanted to see a VCD, and i reconnected the DVD player to TV. And disconnected the home theater system. Now I don't see any Video, though Audio do come in TV speakers. Even I am not seeing the CyberHome start up screen on TV. I tried the reset method described in one of the answers on forum which says:
    1. Open & close the drawer without disk.
    2. Press stop button for some time(upto 20 seconds). This resets the DVD player, and I am suppose to get the Video also back.
But with me, it didn't help. Though I saw that Green LED becomes Red for a moment while holding stop button pressed. That means Reset is happening.
Can anyone help me in getting the Video back. Thanks in advance,
    Manish

I have that box and it does get stuck in strange modes. It has several output modes

NTSC or PAL Composite + S-Video out
    or
Interlaced Y, Pb, Pr out (NTSC or PAL scan rates)
    or
Progressive Y, Pb, Pr out (NTSC or PAL scan rates)

If you had it connected progressive at the Home Theater, that is the most difficult to recover. Best to go back to the home theater to view the menus. Then switch the output to composite and turn it off.

If it is just stuck in interlace YPbPr mode, you can view the menu in monochrome from the Y connector. Then just switch the output back to PAL composite and turn it off, reconnect from Y to to the composite connector and turn it on.

This happened to me several times and when it happened the last time, I wrote down the sequence of button pushes needed to change the menus in the blind so I didn't need to change cables around each time.

    Hi edDV,
Thanks a ton for your reply.
My home theater has 4 speakers and a sub-woofer. There is no connection to video or anything.(May be I used a wrong word as Home Theater, but I meants just speaker system connected at audio output of DVD player.)So I can't see the menu in the so called home theater:-) therefore I can't really change the settings.
Is it possible for you to write the steps for me on the forum. I am connecting Video from composite output of player(connection just above the SVideo output)
One more thing: I connected Y output also to Video in of TV, with hopes of seeing atleast monochrome image...but sadly nothing came.
    Thanks in advance.

If you could get reset to work it should default to composite output. This should also happen if you unplug it for a peroid of time.

The problem with this box is you need to see the menus to know what state (starting point) it is in. Also there are many firmware versions for this box and I would bet they differ for PAL and NTSC markets.

My CH DVD 300 has been unplugged for weeks. I just plugged it in and it defaulted to the composite video output. Mine is outputting in NTSC format and monochrome on Y.

I'm looking for the remote control so I can examine the menus. No luck finding it so far.

OK found remote: Power up default was 4:3 letterbox, NTSC, YCbCr

TV Type Choices: NTSC, PAL, Auto
Video Output Choices: S-Video, YCbCr, Progressive Scan

    Firmware version S.16.00.0FS.4M

Reset: I think it works as I could see LED going RED for a second. But I dont see any effect on the video output on TV screen.

NTSC/PAL: I think in India TV transmission is PAL. In my TV I have setting to AUTO, so it should be able to take NTSC/PAL both. For the curiosity, I changed setting of TV to NTSC, for no good. And then to PAL again no difference. I am now back to AUTO:-)

How can I find the firmware version. I saw that the box says BIOS version 18SS(not sure...though I can see it..and correct it if its wrong.)

I hope you can find remote soon.

From the point that you said about unplugging it for a long time: I recall that I kept it unplugged for almost a week and then I got into trouble.

Write back if you can get the sequence of commands.

    Thanks

  6. I know this is gonna sound really dumb, but I had the same thing happen to me and I spent forever trying to fix it before I thought of this.

Check your connections. Make sure they are hooked up correctly(ie yellow to yellow. Check both the connectoins on the dvd player and the tv.

This gets to PAL selection on mine.

Power ON (no DVD, door closed).
Setup, Right Arrow, Enter, Down, Enter, Down, Enter
    Setup

The number I gave was on the "System" Menu.
It may be something other than firmware.

This sequence gets to Reset on the menu.

Power ON (no DVD, door closed).
Setup, Right Arrow, Right Arrow, Right Arrow, Enter
    Down, Down, Down, Down, Enter

    Hi,
I tried as you said, but no success.
I also tried the RESET sequence as suggested by you, it does bring the GREEN LED to RED for a moment. This means the sequence for you and my box are same. I got same LED effect when I pressed the STOP buttn on panel continuosly for some time.
I am not getting any Video output...do you suspect chip has blown. I had that doubt, but then Audio should also have stopped.....
Or can there be a problem with the power supply inside the box.
    Any comments/suggestions.

    thanks,
    Manish

This is a very frustrating piece of hardware. A big problem is the remote control that has poor precision when pressing buttons in the blind. Of course one shouldn't have to push buttons in the blind.

A relative got this box as a gift. He had problems with it. I traded a graphics card to see what a $30 DVD player could do. It sort of works but has problems.

It mostly works for me as a portable field player and as a PAL video source, but it does hang. You would think they would have solved the problems by now.

Yeah, this is frustrating to me too. But everyday I come to this formu page and want to have a solution for my problem:-) Which makes it interesting.
I kept remote control just in front of the sensor on the main panel, so I presume it worked:-).
I hope it would have worked for me atleast for a few months before stopping..........:(

The menu path to reset is doable

Power ON (no DVD, door closed).
Setup, Right Arrow, Right Arrow, Right Arrow, Enter
    Down, Down, Down, Down, Enter[/quote]

    Or

    Setup
then 4-6+ right arrow - it hits the right side
    Enter
then 4-6+ down - it hits the bottom and stops over RESET
    Enter

Otherwise unplug it for a few days.

Another idea. If you have a capture card, try to view it there.

If it has no video at all, it may be broken.
