I have been pulling my hair out over this problem. I was trying to make XVCD, and I have followed every instructions posted in the Guide, everything was going fine, until I tried to burn with nero, and it tells me the files are too large for the 700 mb CDR I am using.

I have generated several mpeg files, and their sizes range from 738 mb to 781 mb. I turned off VCD compliant option in nero and they all showed up as files being too big.

I have E-mailed Sefy, and he suggested using VCDEasy and TSAC, but they were all telling me the files are too big.

Now I have used the bit rate calculator posted on the site, and by entering the length of my video, audio bit rate, and the length of my CDR, I did everything according to the guide, double checked all my TMpegenc settings several times, but I just can't burn them to the CD's.

I don't know if this is a conversion problem or burning problem. Can you help me? Is the bit rate calculator wrong?

I noticed that when using VCDEasy, I noticed the bin files I generated for my 744 mb mpeg came out close to 785 mb. Does Nero or other burning software re-encode the mpeg files before they burn to the CD's, so that a file with 744 mb may come out bigger when burned to the CD's? I know I usually won't have this problem making compliant CD, just when I started to mess around with video bit rate when making XVCD's.

Anyone else out there have the same problem? or am I just the only one.

My computer spec: AMD Athelon 1.0 Mhz, 768 Ram, 40 & 20 gig HD, Phillips CD Burner, Window XP.

  2. Your first file (744mb) is larger then a 74min CDR, so I can understand why it won't burn, although it should be able to over burn correctly.

The 781mb file is defenetly too big for 74min, but will fit well on a 80min CDR media.

As for Nero, sometimes it miscalculates the filesize compared to the movie length, and will generate a too large image, that is why I suggested using TSCV or VCDEasy to create the Bin file

As for TSCV/VCDEasy saying the file is too big, they always mention it, if you passed the 74min CDR size limit.

Thank you Sefy, for taking time to answer my question.

I took your suggestion and tried VCDEasy (TSCV is too difficult, it keeps giving me an error msg while creating the bin file), it turned my 781 mb mpeg file into an monstrous 858 mb bin file.

However, I have solved the problem. I run my file thru Tmpgenc's mpeg tool, and selected merge & cut tab, I set the file type to mpeg-1(Non-stand), without making any cuts, I simply run it thru. It turned my 744 mb file to 743 mb, but Nero was able to read it correctly & I have successfully burned my first XVCD.

Thank you any way for the help. Really appreciated.
