The Panasonic DV codec takes over for all my DV Type 2 videos on my computer. My editing program sees previous MS DV Type 2 files as Panasonic and makes me convert them, even though they were never really made into Panasonic DV files.
How can I tell the Panasonic DV codec to JUST BE A VFW CODEC and not hijack my MS Directshow Type 2 DV files?
This is ruining my Virtualdub experience. Please help me or I will have to abandon virtualdub as a program.

If you want to use DV with VirtualDub, you have to use something besides the MS codec. You could try the Canopus DV codec, but it will will likely do the same thing.

There's no way to seperate VFW and Directshow codecs?
This doesn't make any sense.
I tried just setting my project to Panasonic DV Type 2 to compensate but the video field order comes out flipped, so I'd have to convert it anyway.Your miserable life is not worth the reversal of a Custer decision. -
I have the MS DV codec, the panasonic DV codec (for virtualdub support) and the Sony DV codec (for Vegas) all installed on the same machine, and they are all seen seperately, and do not get confused int he various applications. Something has gone very awry with your installation.

Let me tell you that I had the same problem. Panasonic codec taking over all other codecs ( I'm using Premiere).
The only way to resolve it was to uninstall it, which is not easy, as there is no uninstall to it.

there is perhaps a better solution. Try to reduce what is called the "Merit" of the filter. The higher the "Merit", the more intrusive is the codec. Such a decompression codec as a DV codec should have a "Merit" less than the "Merit" of the DV Video Decoder (that is $00800000 ). I think $00600000 would be fine in your case for the Panasonic one.
In order to fix this, you may use my freeware Filmerit
http://paul.glagla.free.fr/filmerit_en.htm. Its is very secure and comfortable to use, just be sure to leave the Read-Only mode in the preferences panel.Paul Glagla
