Hi I have an mpeg file that is large, around 600 megs, but when I play it the length is shown as 42 seconds, which is incorrect. It will play fine to 42 seconds then stops. If I drag the scroll bar in media player to forward through the file it will show me what part should be at that marker but it still thinks that the file is short and will only play to the end of the 42 seconds. This, as you can imagine, is quite annoying. So i can basically view any part of the entire clip, but if i wanted to say watch part that was around the end (say 40 seconds as far as the stupid player is concerned) I can only watch 2 seconds of that area because it stops when it reaches 42. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Thanks

Your mpeg file is corrupt. In my case I would run it through the Quickstream Fix tool of VideoReDo and done. Alternatively you can try demuxing it and play the audio and the video and see which one is damaged just for fun.
another thing you could try running it through and mpeg editor and clip out the corrupt part at the 42 second mark. If doing that I'd also use VideoReDo's trim and copy source file on the tools menu. That will cut most things even corrupt files that can't be loaded into VRD because of file problems.
Good Luck
