Is there an easy way to see the conntens of subpicture streams, without looking the whole movie. You know some movies need forced streams, because they sometimes use foreign language like in "last samurai" or in "man on fire" and when doning a backup without menu and unnecessayr subpictures, how do i know which stream i have to choose, e.g. using dvdshrink. I know the forced stream option in dvdshink, but i dont know which stream i have to use if there are, let's say 3 streams in my language. Any idea?

  2. Hi-

One way to see the contents of each stream is to convert the DVD subs to IDX/SUB format. Open the IFO for the movie in VobSub Configure. It comes with the VobSub package. If you have GKnot installed, it's in the Subtitles Tab. Give it a destination folder, hit "OK" and wait a couple of minutes. When done, you'll have big IDX/Sub files containing all the sub streams. Then open them one at a time in Sub Resynch (also in the VobSub package, also in GKnot) and you'll see the timings and dialog for the various streams. The Forced Subs will be marked.

You have to remember that sometimes there are Forced Subs, and they'll be contained within the larger stream of all the subs for that language, and they'll be marked as Forced. Sometimes the subs for a different language will have their own separate much smaller stream and aren't Forced technically. I don't know which is the case for your 2 movies.
