After purchasing a brand new package of Pinnacle Studio 9 (version 9.4.3). I wanted to rip my own dvds (already transfered from VHS) into mpeg files so I can re-edit them. Pinnacle made an mpeg file, but when I tried to import this very file into the Studio edit timeline it said that I had to purchase some keys in order to be able to use all the codecs, dolby etc and wouldn't even play on the timeline (I tried playing it on Nero, which also asks me to purchase a key!!!!)


Well, so I went ahead and purchased the key (with the assurance of a representative that I could import dvd title with it). The key mainly activates Surround sound, dolby digital and a whole range of others I don't understand. The whole point of the excercice for me, was to avoid having to go through, another program to do encoding/decoding etc. To have Pinnacle Studio 9.4.3 be my all-in-one vide ripping/editing/burning suite.

So, I was able to capture the DVD title into an mpeg file of about 1.52 GB. Alas, when I import it to the Edit project on Pinnacle, the sound is out of synch, starting from the very beginning. Now before you say that this is a Capture problem, I played the mpeg file in Windows Media Player and it plays fine, audio and video in complete synch.

I even zoomed in on the project to ths smallest fragment of a second Pinnacle's time line will allow and tried locking the video, and shifting the audio one notch on one direction to make up for the synch error. Again, the first second or so seems to be in Synch, and the rest is just audio followed by lips moving. I haven't tried the other way round yet (locking audio and shifting video in the opposite direction).

I am completely at the end of my wits....please help with details, anyone.

I've got a 3 gig chip, 500mb memory and a 256mb video card....The same work on my previous Pinnacle 8 version never went out of synch. I've got enough space on my hard disc.

The great puzzle is why does it play in synch on WMP, when the capturing software that made the mpeg file itself (Pinnacle) can't play it in synch?
