  1. My Toshiba SD3109 fails to recognize a VCD (on a CDRW disk) I created using Nero (and Dazzle for creating the mpeg file). The DVD player plays VCDs and is supposedly CDRW compatible.

    Any thoughts?

  2. Does it say that it can play CD-R/W media anywhere in your owner's manual?

If not, then your DVD player was not designed to play CD-R/W media.

You will have to experiment with different brands of CD-R/W media to find one that works. In these situations, CD-RW tends to work better than CD-R.

From the user comments, you are gonna have problems getting it to recognize your CD-R's. But CD-RW (depends on brand) should do well. (again, going off users comments)

  4. Yes. I have come across similar problems recently. I have IBM Laptop 380Z which has 24 speed Toshiba drive and Windows ME. It can not recognize some VCD's that play perfectly all right on a junk 4 year old PC that has 4 speed Micron CD ROM drive. I read on the website that VCD's can be played in any CD ROM drive. I think lot depend on how the VCD was burnt and how Windows is setup on the machine that plays it. Please check all .vxd files in your \windows\system\iosubsys directory.

  5. Interesting as that is, it isn't relevant to this thread. The original poster was refering to playback problems on a stand-alone player.
