I want to watch DVD movies on a notebook. Is it possible that a notebook displays the picture just like one watches the DVD movie on a TV? My notebook displayer is 15.4 Wide Ultrabright. The resolution is 1280 x 800 pixels which is quite different from what I watch the DVD movie from either a portable DVD or TV. Does the notebook displayer type matters the picture quality? If so, what type and size of the notebook displayer is the best for playing a DVD movie? Thanks.

For watching DVDs, I like PowerDVD. It comes close to the performance and setup of a regular DVD player.

If you want freeware, VLC Media Player is good. It can be set up for DVD also. A little more setup work, but it's a very versatile player. Plays most any other format also and doesn't need codecs to be installed most of the time.

Whatever the notebook resolution, the player should display at DVD resolutions.

It should be about the same as on a TV unless you watching Full Screen DVDs for some unholy reason. In which case the edges will not have video in them.

The adapter TYPE is what video card is in it... so on most laptops its unchangable.

Yes, I found the Full Screen DVDs displayed by the laptop is not good as I watch the DVD from the TV. Do you mean the laptop video card (rather than the displayer) determines the picture quality? If so, what type of the video card is best for the laptop displaying the good picture quality? I will check the laptop in the market, which can display the best DVD quality.
