I have a SONY TRV 330 DV Camera.
I'm looking to be able to capture my HOME VIDEOS and convert them to VCD, so as to watch them with a DVD player.

I have done this thru ULEAD Video program, but it seems the quality is lacking quite a bit.

I have an OLD computer, so I'm wondering if this is the problem. It's a ATHLON 700MHZ with 2 FIREWIRE ports...
    128MB RAM, and a 40GB harddrive.

What does someone recommend I do? Buy a VIDEO card with DV capture? I was looking at that ATI allin wonder DV card....is that the one?
Please any help will be appreciated...
I finally got the wife to approve the purchase of a DIGITAL CAMERA instead of our old VHS-C one. Now I have to JUSTIFY it somehow!
    HELP GUYS! lol

    Thanks for any help,
    Paul

  2. Your computer is fine. The speed will only affect processing time and not the quality of the video as long as you are not dropping frames. I suspect your video card is fine also however it really doesn't matter. Your video card doesn't have much to do with the process. The video you are taking with your digital camcorder is passed though the firewire port as is, like a large file. I have never seen a firewire card alter an image from a digital camcorder.

The quality problem could be many things. Are you talking about video taken from the sony digital or the vhs-c? If your talking about video converted with the camcorder from vhs-c, then yeah the quality is not going to be great because vhs-c is a poor format. If your saying that video your taking with the digital camcorder is bad once converted to a vcd, then you might want to look around and try some differnt encoders (with filters).

Try encoding to SVCD. The results are very good indeed. I went up from 8mm to Digi8 and the SVCD results were fantastic.

    Thanks guys,
So you mean to tell me I don't have to get an expensive video board to capture the better video huh? hmmmm..
I'm currently using the ULEAD video to capture, and Easy CD Creator 5.0 Platinum to burn the VCD's.

So I might be able to clear them up by different filters? and burning programs? Burn to SVCD's....
any leads in the right direction for programs to capture then burn? would love somemore help.
By the way, I'm capturing straight from a DIGITAL camera, Digital8....not the VHS-C's.
    Thank you again,
    Paul
