  1. I'm trying to capture stuff off my DVR onto DVD. I'm playing the video and having it converted through my Sony Camcorder and firewire into my computer. I've captured video before but it's been a couple of years. I'm using Premiere Elements 1 with patch and when I click on "capture" the button just stays mashed in and it never starts capturing. I cancel it and it says no frames captured. I can see and hear the video.

I've also tried Virtual Dub and the same thing happens.

I installed the huffyuv codecs and still no change.

    Help please.

    Thanks
    Paul

Use WinDV (search Tools section) for your transfers. I've done many hours of VHS ----> Digital camcorder ----> PC using WinDV and have had ZERO dropped frames. VirtualDub won't "capture" via firewire, so stop trying. You can use VDub to further process the resultant AVI files, then convert your final AVI file(s) to MPEG-2 with the program of your choice. I really like VSO DivX to DVD for a quick, basic DVD.

Mainconcept encoder also is capable to do this. Try the demo from their site.

    Analog DV Pass-Through

I found the solution to the problem I had using my camcorder pass-through to convert analog video to mini-DV then capturing on my computer. I’m posting this hoping this will be useful to others.

    Situation:

Whenever I use my Nerovision to record/capture a video from my Sony mini-DV Handycam camcorder (DCR-TRV38), the camcorder stops transferring the video. Same thing happens with Windows Movie Maker and Adobe Premiere software.

    Aim:

Convert analog video to digital with mini-DV camcorder pass-through. Capture with Nerovision on hard drive by converting to Mpeg2 so that I can eventually transfer to DVD.

    Connections:

VCR or Hi8 to mini-DV camcorder with compositive video RCA jacks.
Mini-DV to computer with IEEE 1394 Firewire.

Nerovision (or any capture software): Detects the mini-DV camcorder. Can see the scenes converted and transferred onto computer within Nerovision. Can also see scenes on Sony mini-DV LCD screen.

    Problem:

Whenever I press the record/capture button, the mini-DV makes a sound, stops and the LCD is a blue screen. No video is captured.

    Solution:

Simply remove the mini-DV tape from the camcorder. It confuses the capture software thinking you’re trying to transfer from the tape rather than the pass-through analog. Another solution for the Sony was to use the Sony Pixela Imagemaker software that has a setting to recognize mini-DV and acts properly. Limitation is that the Imagemaker version I have only has Mpeg1 encoding.
