I need to zoom some PAL 4x3 material to 16x9 anamorphic, ie chop off the top and bottom 8th and stretch whats left back to 576 still as AVI.
I need to edit tapes together (all MiniDV) with the final result being anamorphic widescreen (16x9 720x568) for DVD. 1 is guaranteed anamorphic, my camera has a W/S chip, 2 tapes are probably anamorphic - possibly letterboxed, 3 are 4x3.
I will need to convert the 4x3 material - not worried about a slight quality drop, to match the W/S cameras, before editing.
Thanks

Vdub is easy if cropping is all that is required. The problem comes when you have 4:3 footage shot by someone who has not taken into account the 16:9 frame, in what case you may find you simply can't chop off the top and bottom without destroying the frame (cutting off people's heads etc. If that is the case, you will have to reframe the image before cropping, probably keyframing the motion of the frame as you go. Very time consuming, however other editors may make this process easier.

Good job I stuck insulation tape over the viewfinders and reframed them! My helper had zoomed in tight before I did this!
I'll download virtualdub
Thanks
