I heard many people have problems with sound being not in sync when watching dvds on a standard dvd player. In my case, I will be using a dvp642, an Onkyo S780, and a Panasonic 30" widescreen HDTV CRT, using component video and optical audio. Will there be any audio/video sync issues when I play regular dvds as well as burned dvds with XviD files on them?(with proper audio sync in the XviD files themselves). I don't want to buy all the stuff only to find that I can hear people 5 minutes after their mouths move in a movie.

Sync problems are much more common with capturing than converting or playing. They generally result from bad video files or bad conversions. Out of many thousands of video files, I've only had one or two with sync problems.

If you were to download questionable Xvids from the net and convert them from PAL AVIs to NTSC DVDs, you may run into those problems occasionally. The most common cause of sync lose is a damaged video file. You should have no problems with commercial DVDs or properly converted DVDs or even Xvids as long as they are not damaged and were converted properly.

Most sync issues associated with TV's occur on sets such as LCD's which run at a fixed resolution (say 720p). Any input they receive that is not in their native format must be converted. Most of the time this is not an issue. Issues vary according to TV, input source, and other devices such as upconverting dvd players.
