Hi all, I'm a newbie with a problem.
Doing some video editing that I wanted do do some narration on.
I have been trying a demo program from SONY called Vegas. I also have Roxio 7 which I may cheap out on.
Here is my problem:
I have a video track that has it's own audio which is at a normal level. Have some wav files I added that were fine also. I then dug out an old microphone which I had used in Analog mode in the past and it was DOA.
I went to my local Radio Shack looking for a mike to attach to my sound card input and there wasn't too much there. I saw a "Podium Microphone" on clearance that looked perfect as it has a nice heavy base and a gooseneck. It is AC powered with a master power switch, a Microphone on/off switch and a volume control. Here is a link to the mike:

Anyway, when I get the mike attached, the volume is very low. If I turn the volume all the way up on the mike, and in the windows controls, and in the editing program, I have to get mt lips right up to the mike just to hear my voice.
From the reading I did, I was leaning toward the reasoning that the mike is suited toward the Public Address end of mikes and that I might need some type of preamp to get the mike level where I need it.
Am I on the right track? Should I look for some type of line amplifier? Would an aftermarket Sound Card make a difference? (I have only the onboard AC3 sound).
I have looked through this site and have not found anything that directly addresses this problem so if there is an article, faq, etc... could someone please post a link...
Thank you very much for any and all help.
Wayne

Sorry but you bought the wrong mic for your use. Go purchase an inexpensive PC mike for 10 to 15 dollars. Logitech makes some good ones!

Thanks for your help. I just bought a Logitec desktop mic and will see if I can return the other. Won't be here for a week, but I will post and let you know how it goes.
