  1. What is type 1 and 2 in an AVI-file? Is Type 1 the old way of doing an AVI-file?
Does a conversion from 1 to 2 deteriorate the AVI-file?
Is it better to capture from the DV-tape once more to create a type 2 AVI-file?

Type 1 or 2 DV are just two methods of adding the audio to the video file. Check this in the 'Glossary' for a better explanation.

Which type you use mostly depends on your software. I use Type 2 most of the time because it works with VirtualDub Mod and TMPGEnc encoder. The latest VD can use Type 1. Conversion from one type to the other doesn't seem to degrade the quality.

    Here's microsoft's take on it: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/archive/dvavi.mspx

Essentially there is no difference, the audio is stored differently.
