How can you tell if a avi/divx/xvid was converted into a dvd ?
I'd like to know if it was via a computer program or Dvix player to DVD recorder.

There's no way I'm aware of. If it was encoded, you might see the name of the encoder used, but that wouldn't tell you much either. Drop it into Gspot and see if anything interesting shows.
You might try some of the other programs in 'Tools" <<<< under the heading of 'Codec /Video Identifiers' and see what they say about it.
