I'm trying to find a DVD recorder that will allow me to insert the recorded DVD into a player and have it start playing right away without the need to deal with a menu or splash screens.

    Thanks,

I know that's the only way the Pioneer recorders work and I think it is typical. This only applies for DVDs that have been burned by the recorder. It doesn't apply to playback of commercial DVDs or others that are set to display the menu upon start.

  3. I do this all of the time!

First, use a standalone recorder that has +VR capability to record a DVD+RW. The put the recorded DVD into your PC and use DVD MovieFactory. Instruct DVD MovieFactory NOT to create menus and make usre that it also is instructed NOT to render MPEG-2 files that already are DVD compliant. Have DVD MovieFactory burn directly to this DVD+RW disk, which already being DVD compliant by virtue of its origin (from a standalone DVD rcorder) will just overwrite the proprietary menuing system of the standalone recorder and have the DVD+RW autoplay when it is placed into a DVD standalone recorder or desktop player. If you want a permanent DVD, just copy this DVD+RW to a DVD+R or DVD-R with a PC copy program such as Nero (or even DVD MoiveFActory Disc Creator 4, which also has this copy module included in the package)! Works great for me EVERY TIME, and this is how I prepare Archive DVDs for my Clients!!

He didn't want to do post production...he wanted a recorder to do this (no menu). If you want to do post production, use TMPGEnc DVD Author and set for "no menu". I have been using that for TV shows for many months now...

    Hi guys,
Thanks for the help. The reason I don't want menus etc.. is because I have a small video production business and when I edit a project for a client--Usually short 30 second spots--I deliver it on DVD by recording the output from my edit system directly into my Magnavox DVD recorder for the client to inspect before I dump it from my non-linear edit system onto Betacam SP tape or mini-dv tape for broacast.

After reading my initial post I realized I may not have correctly explained what I'm looking for.
I'm looking for a DVD recorder that will not automatically add a menu screen to the beginning of the DVD recorded on that machine. I want the DVD from that recorder to be able to playback in any machine without a menu appearing.

I know the Pioneer DVD recorders automatically start playback without going to a menu. You must press the menu button on the remote for a menu to appear. I've read that Toshiba recorders have an option when finalizing to choose whether you want automatic playback or the menu to appear. I don't know about other brands.

You also can record a DV stream from your computer via Firewire to the Pioneer recorders that have the iLink.

My Pioneer 633H records as Frobozz states. I do believe there is an option to change the way the burned DVD starts, Root Menu, Menu or "Play DVD". I will search the programs again next DVD I burn.
