I have a home move I just edited it windows movie maker and saved as dv-avi file and used the option as the computer as its path. I then used win-avi converter to convert to dvd. However, my the audio ended up a bit choppy. Is this a problem with win avi converter, is this a problem with win movie maker or do I need another editing program?

    Thanks.

You can test the output from wmm by playing back the avi file to see how it plays.

WinAVI Converter seems to have it's zealots, but they seem to be considerably out numbered by people who have problems with it's output, going by the posts in these forums.

One-click solutions will never give you as a good a quality as a decent encoder. They don't have the level of R&D behind them to consinually improve the output quality. Rather, they just look to queeze the most codecs into the smallest space the fastest, at whatever cost.

If you wan't a low cost quality solution for preserving your home movies, I suggest you look at Vegas Movie Studio or Premiere Elements. These are better editors than WMM, and can take you through encoding to authoring using the tried and tested Mainconcept encoding engine.

If you prefer to keep using WMM a while longer, consider buying tmpgenc plus to encode. Either of these solutions will leave WinAVI Converter in the dust, and leave you feeling much more satisfied with your home movies.

thanks for your reply. I tested it and sometimes, audio starts out choppy sometimes it doesn't. It's wired. Maybe I should get the Vegas Movie studio as you suggested for edditing and tempgenc pluc to convert to dvd.

Question about the tmpgenc plus program, to convert to view on my dvd player or recorder which format do I choose, is it dvd ? On the site I see mpeg 1, mpeg2, mpeg1.5. Could you enlighten me?

    Thanks again.

Windows Movie Maker saves DV AVIs as Type I, I wonder if that has anything to do with the conversion problem. You might try using the Canopus DV File Converter to convert the file to a Type II DV AVI and then run through WINAVI again.
