    Hi everybody,

I am in the process of learning converting PAL (25 fps) avi with AC3 5.1 sound into NTSC dvd with the original 5.1 audiostream.

My source is a 25fps avifile with 5.1 sound (created with AGK, XviD encoded). When I load it into VirtualDub, I get a black screen with the text "WARNING: NOTHING TO OUTPUT BFRAME DECODER LAG"

Does anyone know what is wrong? Or should I use another program to extract the AC3 file? A question that goes with it: can there be audio-delay in the AC3 stream of an avi file, just like with dvd-streams? At the end, where the resulting m2v file is remuxed with this AC3 stream, I need to know for proper muxing right?

    Thanks in advance all

    Ennio

Most players are Pal and NTSC compatible-not all! Highly likely to incur sync issues if going 25fps to 30fps. Check if 100% necessary.

Had same issue today with an avi with 5.1 AC3 and that same message-ignore, still worked ok. Proceed as normal and save video only ( direct stream copy)-select 'no audio'. Now open up original file in VDubMod and 'demux' original 5.1 audio.

Encode to mpeg2/m2v and then mux files back together with an authoring program (e.g TDA). This should work fine without any sync issues.

I think your headaches will start if you demux original audio, convert Pal to NTSC and then remux! As mentioned-check if absolutely necessary and post back if need be.

AC3 sync issues mainly happen when joining ac3 files-AC3fix can help.

Sorry if not been much help.

That is because you encoded with bframes and packed bitstream disabled. The message is generated by the decoder.

Yes avi's can have audio delays.

'File information' will give you info on times for audio and video to check for a delay.

Why save as wav and fix with Beslice? VDubMod:-use to extract AC3 as AC3.

It's been a while since I dealt with avi files. In the past I always used VirtualDub. I simply didn't know about VirtualDubMod. Will download.

    Thanks!

Edit: Ok, I have VirtualDubMod now and extracting the AC3 file goes sweet Thanks!

Now, @ file information, the audiostream says:

Layout: 0.10s preload. Will this be the audio delay?

    Thanks again guys

Check the 'running times' for each-if they match then should be OK.

Or are you saying that your source audio is out of sync? If its not, then dont worry-'if aint broke...........'.
If it is, then it is a somewhat different process.

No, my source audio is not out of sync. But I have to know the audio-delay if I remux the AC3 stream with a converted mpeg2 stream.

In virtualdubmod I also get the same warning. Extracting the AC3 stream seems to be ok but I cant import it in TMPGEnc DVD Author.
Now I tried AC3fix with windows gui, but nothing seems to happen?

Now, when I open the avi in NanDub, no warning, the extracted ac3 stream (save as wav, then correct with BeSliced) is directly accepted in DVD Author, only @ the file properties, I can't make out the delay. Strange hey?

Anybody has an idea? Thanks again

    I'd suggest AVIMuxGUI for demuxing.

    Okay, will try it.

    Thanks

    Edit: Thanks celtic_druid!

AviMuxGui works perfect. It was a bit of a hustle to understand & handle this program. It displays the audio-delay, and the extracted AC3 files are directly accepted in TDA or MuxMan. Great, thanks again.

I had the same problem you have. The .avi file worked perfect but when audio is extracted was a mess, no possible fix found. I tried the solutions stated here and other posts but it won't result.

Then I tried playing the video file on Winamp v5.21 with the Nullsoft Writer plug-in v2.11. The result: a perfect .wav file with the same name as video source.

    Good Luck

When I get that message in vdub I open the file with avisynth as a directshowsource, and everything works.

Yeah, directshow doesn't suffer from the same limitations as VfW.

@CollinPowel, so decoding via mplayer, goldwave, etc. didn't work?
