  1. Hello, I was wondering if there are video and audio codecs that can be used when creating an avi file that aren't compatible with each other. Here's the background as to why I'm asking:
Win Media is having errors with some avi files I have but they play fine in Quicktime. In Gspot it says the video codec of Microsoft Video 1 (CRAM) is not installed, the audio is PCM and the rendering is partial failure. So When I use 1st Video Converter and use the Avi to Avi option, no matter what I choose it gets rid of any win media errors but no sound, no sound in quicktime, and in GSpot it finds the codec and rendering is successful but in GSpot the audio codec sections says "No Audio Channels." If I do Avi to MPEG it shows no audio channels also.
When I use Easy Video Converter 4.2.13 (when is pretty much the same program as 1st Video Converter from the look and function of it) I use the Avi to Avi option but it won't finish the conversion and gives the error "Please check you have installed corresponded video codec" even if I do have that video codec installed on my computer. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

The first thing I'll say is that these "auto-magical" one-click conversion programs often are not worth the miniscule time it took to download them. I haven't heard of these two in particular, but I can't imagine them being any different.

Can you open the source file in virtualdub ?

If all you're trying to achieve is another AVI that plays properly in WMP, then make sure you have the correct video and audio codecs. You could possibly open the source file in virtualdub, exctract the audio to a wav file ( http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/ExtractAudio.htm ) then open the AVI from 1st Video converter, go to video > direct stream copy then go to audio > WAV audio. Nominate the WAV file you extracted earlier, and set any audio compression options you might require (such as conversion to MP3 perhaps) in audio > compression. Save this out to a new AVI with file > Save as AVI and all errors should be gone, and GSpot should render both streams successfully (hopefully).
    If in doubt, Google it.
