    Hi Guys,

When re-encoding an XVID to DVD FILM you need to flag the movie for 3:2 pulldown during playback. Now if I were to use the "DVD mpeg2enc" profile i could check "Set 3:2" in the options. However, I prefer to use "DVD ffmpeg" for my encodes.

Is there any way to set "3:2 pulldown" during an encode using "DVD ffmpeg" so that I can just hit the button and leave it to encode, add 3:2 pulldown flags and author my disc all in one go?

I know it's lazy, but I find encoding then having to manually add 3:2 flags and then set up mux & author a pain. I really don't want to go back to using TMPGEnc on the PC for my NTSC input files! *eeek*

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

  2. Hopefully the 3:2 pulldown option will get added into ffmpeg core. Why not using NTSC in the meantime?

Do you mean re-encode with the framerate set as NTSC (29.97) rather than NTSC FILM? I've always assumed keeping the DVD framerate the same as the source would give better, less jerky playback.

BTW Major, thanks for creating such a brilliant tool. Now there's one less reason to keep hold of my PC.

As a side note, when I convert a 23.976fps NTSC XVID to NTSC DVD using TMPGEnc Plus it not only selected "3:2 Pulldown on playback", but also "Inverse telecine" which apparently converts the video to 24fps.

The results do appear quite smooth during playback, but is inverse telecine useful and can it be enabled in either ffmpeg or mpeg2enc?

  5. Everything is possible with some work, I plan for far better handling of interlacing/telecine/etc in version 1.0.0.
