As a test for learning, I download recording software and captured a 2:24 video uncompressed at a resolution of 640x512 1411Kbps with a file size of 1.52GB

I then applied all of the next steps using virtualdub
    Installed Xvid 1.1.0.-beta2 codec/LAME ACM MP3 Codec

    My two compressions:
Compression one reduced the file size to 81.1MB with a change of resolution to 640x480 Xvid 24 Bit 577Kbps - MPEG-3 Layer 31Kbps Clip time 2:24 - Much bigger than I'd hoped for

Compression two reduced the file size to 49.4MB with no change of original resolution Xvid 24 Bit 344Kbps - PCM 16 Bit 1411Kbps Clip
time 2:24 - Still a bit too big

I'm not sure which audio codec selection is recommended to be used, most video encoding will be captures from a program called fraps.

Please provide example, thanks. I'm currently not that familiar with audio compression or whats recommended for fraps capturing. The following is what I normally would choose when encoding.

    Example - 44.100KHz, 16 Bit, Stereo, 16Kb/s

    Previous Xvid Problem:
Previous Xvid Problem - Caused Xvid to crash when encoding started
"Xvidcore" cp150.cpp. Is there a known fix to this? There was no error on any frame reported.

This error occured after I changed Xvid settings recommended by a guide and it started looking for a *.pass file. When I changed it back to single pass and restore defaults the crash was still present.

I tried uninstall/reinstall of Xvid and all codecs. The only way I could get Xvid encoding to work again was to reinstall the OS.

If it is for xvid/divx, then audio should be mp3 at around 64 - 128kbps. But encoding to Xvid/Divx should be the last stage, as these are very poor choices for editing.
