hi ! After I Moved my Movies-files from Digital Cam with Windv software, i try to open the AVI file, and i get this msg :"Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'dvsd' (unknown). VirtalDub requires a Video for Windows (VFD) compatible codec to decompress video. Directshow codecs such as those used by Windows Media Player are not suitable Only 'Direct stream copy' is available for this video" . I Need help to know what is missing in my system and from where can i get it.

Just update your version of VirtualDub, version 1.6 has a built in DV decoder (but not encoder). Otherwise download the Panasonic DV codec (VFW) codec if you want to encode DV in VDub as well.

Edit: BTW, did you save as a Tyoe 1 or Type 2 DV AVI from WinDV - the older VDub versions don't work with Type 1 DV AVIs?

i thought he meant a digital camera (i.e. a 'cam') -- but if he means a dv camera , yes - install a dv codec ...

Stick with Type 2 for best compatibility with most editing programs. For an explanation of DV Types, see the Glossary entry https://www.videohelp.com/glossary?D#DV
