    Hi All

Im new to dvd authoring and just need some advice. I know the basics etc

I have an avi file, checked it with gspot, its an xvid with mpeg1 layer 3 mp3 audio.

first i'm trying to extract audio using virtual dub mod, i open avi file, it comes up with an error saying it detected improper VBR audio. when i click no to it, then save the wav, the audio comes out fine at 43.50seconds long. When i select yes in the error box, it saves wav at 42.29 seconds long, but the end of the audio of the wav is missing.

The original video length is 42.29 long.

Can anyone help me, im confused as to why the audio length would increase further than the actual video length. and how do i sort it so the full length audio runs the same length as the video.

thanks to anyone who can help

Oh great, and AVI with VBR MP3. Joy. (Ive always have great success with CBR). Try loading the AVI in TMPGEnc and then File -> File Output -> Output to WAV (or something there abouts).

Ive had problems with VDM outputting a good WAV file, but TMPGEnc has always come though.

Then re-encode the WAV to MP3, I suggest WinGoGo for perfect MP3s.

    HTH,

A "slight" difference in length wil not matter that much. VDubMod isn't that good in predicting actual play time when the file is VBR or ABR encoded. Just re-encoded in CBR and ignore the length difference for now, and see what happens.

Recently I was playing with a RMVB file with VDubMod / AVISynth / Real Alternative and got it into AVI, then I realized I didn't compress the audio and audio is taking up 34% of the file. I did the "save as WAV" from VDubMod, then LAME'ed the WAV file (using BeSweet GUI) into a CBR MP3, then dub'ed it back into the AVI with stream copy in VDubMod. While the MP3 is a second and a fraction longer, all of the audio still sync'ed up perfectly with the existing subtitles.
