Using premiere pro 1.5 and xvid.

i can import the xvid encoded videos into premiere fine, but the probem is when the imported clips are in a sequence.

when i try to play the sequence timeline, all the preview window shows is a black screen (sound works fine).

however, i can double click these files in the project pane and have them play fine in premiere induvidually.

divx encoded clips are playing fine from the sequence pane.

I've tried huffyuv, xvid, microsoft windows media 9 as possible "video rendering" "compressor"s and i still get the black screen.

    please help!

    thanks!

I have had the problem with mjpeg footage taken on a still camera. It generally means that either you don't have the correct codec installed, or youhave one that Premiere doesn't like. You could try ffdshow, assuming you are sure it is Xvid. Or you could try converting it to DV with something like Virtualdub and the Panasonic DV codec. Premiere works best with DV footage.

it's xvid. i made those clips myself.

went through the whole game and cut out parts i wanted and selected them, then exported them to xvid encoded avis through virtualdub.

Go back and export as DV-AVI. You can use the Panasonic DV codec like guns1inger mentioned.

that's an option, but i'd rather not go through an entire football game and cut out the clips!

  9. If you start a project with uncompressed AVI as setting and export the file, is it still black?

  10. To clarify: I mean putting the clip on a timeline and exporting it... is there picture then?

  11. The problem is Xvid. Premiere Pro hates using the 'X' codecs for editing.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but I'm having the exact same problem. Is there any way to fix this other than converting the entire xvid encoded movie?

yeah, i changed the fourcc code from 'xvid' to 'divx' and it works fine now.

    i used http://www.divx-digest.com/software/avifourcc.html

    to change the fourcc code.

hi, im having the same problem, however, i have a few more problems. when i did as was suggested above with the fourcc thing, it still didn't work because i don't think i have a plug-in for DivX or something because now i can't even import the file anymore. so where is a good DivX codec plug-in for premiere? and then, though i have heard that it really stinks, where is a plug-in for Xvid output for Premiere? Acutally, if someone could just supply a site for premiere plug-ins that would be great. i would normally convert my files to huffyuv but there are multiple files im converting (6 to be exact, each about two hours long!) and i don't want to wait any longer, it was a long enough wait for Gordian Knot to get them to a viewable file anyway. thanks for all the help.
