    My drive is a 1633S The firmware is for a 1633S I don't see the problem...

    You can hack this drive and get better perfomance from it. Don't be afraid, it is painless.

    I don't get it... what's to "hack"??? How or why is that necessary in order to update my firmware?

    Please take it from Square One... I am as new as new can be to this stuff

    You can turn your 1633 into a 1653 using the patched firmware on this line

    The other link is to a forum that discusses firmware upgrades.... THere is a program called omnipatcher that will allow you to add faster read speeds and other capabilities to your drive. Read about it in the forum.

  7. One time I updated my Sony but the same thing happened. Then I noticed in order to update it, that I needed to SELECT it on the update screen, even though it was already listed. I dont know, maybe your firmware update program is weird like that or you got a fake drive?

    Well, I figured it out. The other drive is really a Lite-On too, and I guess that confused the patch program.

    I got the OmniPatcher. I don't know what it did, but it said it added 16 speed hacks or something I haven't burned a disk yet... we'll see!
