  1. I have an old Toshiba DVD player. CD-RW discs will work, but not CD-R discs (some do, but most don't). Will diamond CD-Rs work? I'm talking about the CD-Rs that have no burn marks and are similar to the ones that are used by original VCDs manufacturers. I saw a local ad that they have it for sale in 100s, but I don't want to buy a pack just to see if they work. They don't sell it individuallly. Any help will be great. Thanks!

  2. On a side question. I've seen these too. What is the difference between them and other CDRs?

Listen up kiddies. These are still cdrs. They use a different type of AZo dye in the cdr. Its still a cdr no matter how it looks. IT will not play on your dvd player. sorry. THey still look cool dont they?

  5. really? i thought diamond CDR-s could play on DVD players that only read 'original' VCD's, heres a question. Can a playstation CD, burnt onto a black back CDR be played without a chip? i thought the only way the PSX detected a pirate was the dye type, so it should work right?

  6. Thanks for the info guys. Yeah, it looks very professional, but if that's the only thing it offers, I'm not going to spend extra for it. It costs $10-15 more in my area; for that amount, I could pick up 100 CD envelopes.

What's the reason that my DVD player won't play these type of CD-Rs? How come CD-RW works?

  7. Douglesh, do not start a playstation topic in a VCD forum. Besides, you should try to find out stuff like that on other websites catering to the PSX.

But, to answer your question, no. Black CDRs will do nothing but make your wallet smaller. Playstation games have a void sector that can't be re-created by burners and when the PSX starts up it checks for it. The black bottom is just Sony trying to be cool, and hey, it is! In order to bypass this 'sector-search' you need to purchase a mod-chip which tells the PSX to not look for the sector. This is your start off point, now you can look for other PSX info ELSEWHERE. And remember to search before asking a question. Text is space.

    ps. NO MORE PSX TALK
