Hello all, I just started copying a decent amount of DVD's and I found that some have problems playing in certain DVD players. I have been copying DVD's using a combination of DVD Shrink and Alcohol 120%. I have been re-authoring the DVD's to contain solely the movie and I remove all foreign languages from them. I have no problem playing these in my home DVD players or my laptop. I have friends here at college too that the DVD's will run fine in their DVD players. At my girlfriend's though, these DVD's refuse to play. I had copies of movies though burned as 1 to 1 copies with DVD X Copy Platinum and they run fine. I have the same problem on a DVD player at my Dad's. They refuse to play in it. Also I noticed that in some DVD players, subtitles will automatically be displayed while in others they won't. It is no problem that subtitles are played, I just turn them off. I am curious though why it is doing this. Is it a result of re-authoring the DVD's? Thank you very much.

Does anyone have any ideas? This still puzzles me as to why I can't play them in certain DVD players. Thanks!

Have you tried doing 1 to 1 with those software packages? If not that would be my suggestion.

I suspect it's rather a question about what media types the DVD player likes and not. +R? -R? Manufacture?
As for subtitles, I think it's a setting of the DVD player - some players are set to use subtitle language X if present, by default. Some discs can have a default subtitle stream on, some players use this default, some don't.

As mats.hogberg pointed out, movies that play in some players and not in others is a media issue. Not all brands/types of media will work in all dvd players.

As for the subtitles, there is a key (i forget the name) set in the menu during the authoring process that turns subtitles on/off. DVD Decryptor or dvd shrink (i forget which) can change that key. You can also disable the key which prevents you from forwarding through all of the misc junk before the main menu/movie.

I used Fujifilm on my first batch of DVD's and those were the ones that run in some but not in others. I just got a large batch of Memorex that I have been copying, so I will find out soon. I had a friend copy 2 movies, 1:1 and they one fine on of the the DVD players that mine don't, that led to my thought about the authoring being the issue.
