  1. Hi, I have just started learning about home movie to DVD conversion.
GUI for DVD Author seems to be a great program.
What I miss is the possibility to add several input files as chapters of a title, not as new titles.
    Is this possible?
    Background:
I capture my DV with WinDV, which automatically separates the AVI files after a given datecode discontinuity (let's say 4 hours). This pre-processes my manual chapter edit process.
Then I do some editing (not much, maybe fade in fade out, deleting some scenes) and generate a datecode text file (*.sub) with DVSubMaker. This Tool gives me some control over the subtitle format (date and time, with or without seconds).
Then I convert the AVI files to mpeg2 and start GUI for DVD Author.
With this, I would like to produce a DVD with one title and several chapters, with the datecode as subtitle, with a simple menu.

Is this poossible or is there a simpler or other way to achieve the goal?

  2. If you want ONE title with chapters, the timecodes (GOP and SCR) of the whole title must be continious. Therefore it is not possible to join several titles to a whole movie without rewriting the time codes. Rewriting of time codes is not a feature of GfD...
Depending on your used programs (i.e. avi editor, mpeg encoder and DVSubMaker which I don't know) there are several possibilities to 'achieve the goal'...
    1. Joining of the avi files in your avi editor
    2. Joining of the avi files during mpeg encoding
    3. Demux the 'final' mpeg files with projectx as one collection (this will also rewrite the timecodes) and give you one video and one audio stream.

In each case you will need to join the subtitle files too and create a chapter file from the durations of the individual avi/mpeg files.
In the end you have one file to import into GfD (or the elementary streams + subs + chapterfile)

If you need more help, let me know about your current avi editor and mpeg encoder.
