Too vague. Can't help without further info...

    Give us more particulars:
What filetypes/streams/channels did you start with?
What filetypes/streams/channels do you want to end up with?
    What applications are you using?
    Any hardware constraints?

Are you talking about ReMuxing? ReEncoding? or just ReSaving?

  3. I'm talking about resaving the work. No hardware contraints, using wav. I'm using sound forge and audacity I want a surround effect. not pure 5.1 but close and how can I have a stereo\mono file. Is that how it's done in 5.1

Well, since neither SoundForge, nor Audacity natively support multichannel files, the options are a little more limited.

Sounds like what you want is to generate a psuedo-5.1 surround mix, upconverted from an original stereo mix, right?

Well, there are methods to doing this, but they're involved so I will just direct you to do a search of this site. Try "remix" and "surround"...
