Greets,
I'm looking for a DVD player that goes to black when you hit "stop", instead of going to blue and saying "Sony" or name of manufacturer.
I'm told they exist ... can anyone out there help?

Most DVD players have a screen saver feature that keeps from causing marking of the tube, so going to black is not really needed.

However, that is not the purpose.
If someone out there knows of a DVD player (perhaps you have one), which goes to black, it would be appreciated if you could let me know.

Dont know any that come Black,But you might want to look into DVD players that you can hack the Firmware. I know there are some you can put any picture you want as the screen Saver,In this Case yours would be Black. Search Google.

try the setup menu. i have 2 sony's and you can set the picture from jacket picture, to sony splash screen, to black (i think!)

Yes my Centrum firmware can be "hacked" and the background picture changed. It's basically a VESTEL machine, sold under many different brands:
