    Hi

Just purchased this Panny DVD recorder, is there any software that will allow me to read a recording from a DVD-R R/W on my PC without having to finalise the DVD.

    Regards

  2. There is. Download ISOBuster, then in the program select the disk, and export the tracks which are the large ones ie. mbs rather than kbs (the kbs are prob title info, where as mb ones are the video files which are saved as .vob in finalisation). When its finished copying it to your hard disk, rename the extention from .raw or watever it is, to .vob - then open in a video program eg. powerdvd etc.

As far as im aware, you wont be able to read the disk in any video player program straight from the disk drive, without finalising, because as you may have noticed, xp doesnt recognise that theres anything on the disk.

Oh yeah btw, your dvd reader/writer must be able to read DVD-R (Or RW). I found my dvd reader which is meant to read dvd-r didnt work i dont think.. but with my dvd burner in pc, it reads fine (should on burners which do that type of disk).

The free version will work fine for getting the vids off your disk.

I use +RW's in my lite-on and have no need to finalize them, b/c you can't. They read just fine in my computer.

  4. That's because the RW is most likely used as a DVD-VR disk (like dvd-ram also). That's why a PC will let u play it, because it will recognise it as that. However, PC's wont read a dvd-r disk as a dvd-video until it's finalised.

I just noticed in the original post, it does say RW as well. My panasonic wont take RW, but assuming the RW is like dvd-ram recording, u might be able to play that directly in a program like powerdvd.
