My internal DVD burner finally gave out. I bought an external, which works fine. I am trying to upgrade to 10.4, I put in the install disc, double click the installer and when it ask me to restart I say ok. It tries to restart from the install disc, but it is looking at the old drive and sees nothing there. how can I force it to look at the new drive to find the install disc?

A picture is worth a thousand words, but a good camera is worth about a thousand bucks.

Try using the Startup Disk panel in System Preferences (from your Mac) to select the startup volume on the DVD.
