    Hello,

    Any recommendations on which programs (perferably freeware) would be the best to do very simple editing for multiple types of video files (.avi, .mpg, .mp4, .rm, .asf, etc, etc). I am basically just looking to be able to delete commercials and portions of video files. I know this is a pretty basic question but figured better to ask people who have had experience with all these different app's available.

    Different file types - different tools.
    AVI: VirtualDub
    mpg: womble mpeg vcr (not free)
    The other kinds, I've never worked with.
