  1. I'm about to capture a TV series that is 30 episodes long.

I want to set the Brightness & Contrast properly for each episode (using VirtualDub) before I grab them.

I've read about finding a scene that has equal amounts of black and white and use it to set the Brightness & Contrast, but there unfortuantely, in three episodes I've looked at, no real "equal" scenes.

So, I've tried to find a scene that would be good to set things to... well then next thing you know some scene down the road seems darker or some white object is almost glowing. ???

    Any help?

The video source is on quality tape and the videos barely played at all, so tape life is still good.

I just don't have a reference frame for each video. (And as mentioned, when I think it looks good (on my monitor) some scene down the road is not the best.

    Ok. I'm open to ideas.

    Thanks,
    Troy

Ok don't know if this will help but here's a few suggestions

    1. Try find a scene with the most black and most white on it.

    if that didn't work.

    2. Try finding a scene with the most white colours.

If that still don't work then my final suggestion is

    3. Try find a scene with light and dark colours and follow the guide on lukes webpage on how to adjust the brightness and contrast with the histrogram.

If you have colours glowing like the red you have to decrease the saturation or increase if they are too dull.

    Hope that helps.
